Manzanares El Real
Manzanares El Real stands in the Sierra del Guadarrama National Park, at the foot of the Pedriza, part of a global network of biosphere reserves, with some of the finest scenery in the Community of Madrid. The town is home to the source of the River Manzanares and the Santillana Reservoir, an important birdlife reservation.
Manzanares El Real contains important medieval remains and has one of the best-preserved forts in Spain, a fine example of Castilian fifteenth-century military architecture. The Gothic gallery designed by Juan Guas (architect to the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella), is of particular interest.
