Network of Medieval Cities and Towns
The Network of Medieval Cities and Towns is a pioneering tourist initiative made up of seven municipalities in Spain and Portugal with an important medieval heritage: Almazán (Soria), Estella-Lizarra (Navarre), Hondarribia (Gipuzkoa), Jerez de los Caballeros (Badajoz), Laguardia (Alava), Marvão (Portugal) and Sigüenza (Guadalajara).
The aim of the network is to promote the rich historical legacy of these cities and towns, whose medieval past is still preserved in their history, architecture, legends and literature. The network’s initiatives include the highly successful International Medieval Tapas Competition, staged annually with one representative from each town, and the Running the Middle Ages, a network that combines sport and history.
